Home sales at their highest in 14 years with Andalusia in the lead. Operations soar 24% increase for twelve consecutive months.
The sale of homes increased with 24% last February compared to the same month of 2021, to add 53,623 operations, its highest figure since April 2008 and its best data in a month of February since that same year, according to reported this Thursday the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
With the interannual advance of February, which has moderated seven points with respect to the growth experienced in January, the sale of homes has chained twelve consecutive months of positive rates.
The year-on-year rise in home sales in February was a consequence of both the increase in operations on new homes, which grew by 9.2%, to 10,921 operations, and the increase in the sale of resale properties by 28.4% , up to 42,702 transactions. According to the National Statistics Institute, two thirds of the home sales made in February (66.8%) were made between private sellers and buyers.
In monthly terms (February over January), the sale of homes increased by 1.8%, compared to the 7.6% increase experienced in February 2021, and in contrast to the decreases of between 4.1% and 13.1% experienced in the months of February of the 2018-2020 period. In the first two months of the year, the sale of homes increased by 27.4%, with increases of 31.5% in the case of second-hand homes and 12.9% in new homes.
Andalusia, in the lead
In absolute values, Andalusia was the region that carried out the most home transactions during the second month of the year, with 10,978 purchases, followed by the Valencian Community (7,986), Catalonia (7,934) and Madrid (7,610). In February 2022, only the community of Navarra reduced the number of home sales compared to the same month in 2021, with a decrease of 4.6%, while the rest of the regions increased it.
The largest year-on-year increases occurred in the Canary Islands (+52.2%), La Rioja (+46.3%), the Balearic Islands (+42.2%) and the Valencian Community (+35.6%), while the smallest corresponded Asturias (+8%) and Galicia (+8.8%), the only regions with single-digit increases.
